We are all worried about an intruder entering our home when we are not there or, even worse, when we are inside. Security doors have been designed to make it difficult for this to happen. But, how to choose the one that suits you best? In ParaTuReforma we are going to give you all the keys you need to know about it.
Types of security doors
The first thing you need to be clear about is the difference between the two main types of security doors.
Armored doors
We start by talking about this type of door, which is made of wood. However, inside its structure it houses one or two metal sheets. The purpose? To make it more robust and difficult to break by thieves and squatters.
The frame in which they are installed is also made of wood, although it is true that it can be reinforced with a layer of iron. They are also characterized by having a security lock designed to prevent them from being opened by the most common techniques used by intruders. We are talking, for example, about bumping or impressioning.
Armored doors
These security doors go one step further in terms of security and strength. This is because they consist of a steel frame and several metal plates inside their structure. When combined with security locks, they are almost impassable.
A good example of the robustness of this type of doors is offered by our Triana armored door. Of course, you must take into account that its price is much higher than that of the armored doors. Something logical, since they are much safer.
Security doors: tips for choosing a security door
Having clarified what types exist in the market, it is time to provide you with the best tips for you to choose one. We are sure that, within the catalog of ParaTuReforma doors, you will find the one you need.

Safety classification
You may not know it, but the UNE 1627:2011 Standard measures the degree of safety of doors. Specifically, it establishes a scale from 1 to 6. However, according to the UNE 85160:2013 Standard, only those that score 3 or higher are considered security doors. Let’s take a closer look:
- They provide a basic level of security. These are the most common for housing
- Grade 4. These doors are more resistant than the previous ones, especially used in dwellings of considerable risk, stately villas and offices of buildings in industrial areas.
- Grade 5 and 6. These doors are the most secure doors available, have a considerable thickness, and are used in nuclear plants and military areas.
Our advice is that, as a minimum, you should purchase a security door with a resistance grade 3 according to the above classification. However, if it is a residential area, the best would be one with protection grade 4. Chances are that you will not require the model in question to reach the highest level.
Materials
First of all, you should pay attention to the frame. In the case of armored doors, it is of vital importance that it is made of steel and consists of a single piece. This is the metal that must also have been used for the manufacture of the wooden planks housed inside.
Regarding the exterior coating, it is usual that it has been made of wood. This choice depends largely on your personal taste and the style of your home. It is also possible to lacquer one or both sides.
Design
The outer design of the door is intended to hide the metal elements inside. It is obvious that, without it, it would be impossible to obtain a good aesthetic result.
In this sense, you have many alternatives. Let us give you some examples:
- Rustic armored doors. Undoubtedly, they are ideal for the main entrance of single-family houses and villas that have opted for this decorative style. The Triana model we referred to earlier is an excellent example.
- Classic armored doors. They show a design that fits better to the usual canons of this type of doors. The Cearco armored door illustrates this trend, which stands out for its elegance and sobriety.
- Double leaf armored doors. The Triana armored door is also available in a double leaf version. It is undoubtedly an excellent alternative for you if the entrance to your home is larger than usual.
- Modern armored doors. The latest trends in the design of this type of doors are mainly based on horizontal lines. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Verona armored door is among the best sellers in our catalog.

Other considerations
At this point, we are going to summarize all the tips we have not yet given you so that you can check whether the model you like meets them or not:
- The lock. It makes no sense to make a heavy investment in a security door if, afterwards, you do not acquire a lock to its height. In this regard, experts advise that it should have at least 12 to 19 security locks.
- Concealed hinges. It is essential to prevent potential intruders from using the lever method to open the door. It must be impossible to access them if the door is closed.
- Single key. There are times when we have no choice but to leave a key to the house to a third party. This system will allow you to do it without that person having the possibility of making a duplicate.
- Sight glass. You have two options. On the one hand, you can install a conventional peephole with a viewing angle of at least 180 degrees. On the other hand, you also have the option of getting an electronic peephole. If you connect it to the WiFi network, you will be able to see who is at the door even if you are not at home.
